The dedication of a memorial wall for former Texas City baseball coach Donal E. Clark will be held April 2 at 6:30pm. All former players are encouraged to attend. Clark coached the Stingarees from 1954-72.
BASKETBALL
Former La Marque standout Julien Lewis recently completed his first season with Fresno State, finishing third on the team with 11.3 points per game. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game with the Bulldogs, which finished 17-15 overall.
Lewis led the Cougars to the Class 4A, Region III finals in 2010 before earning All-State honors as La Marque earned its first trip to the Class 4A state Final Four. He originally committed to the University of Texas before transferring after one season. He sat out the 2013-14 campaign after leaving the Longhorns for Fresno State.
FOOTBALL
The La Marque Tigers will hold registration for the 2015 season on April 11 from 9:00-11:00am for both players and drill team members. For more information, call president Kirk Ford at 409-939-8720, Chris Lane at 409-392-6167 or drill director Rosa Ford at 409-750-1450.
Both Armanti and D’Onta Foreman are expected to have bigger roles for the University of Texas next season, as the Texas City duo have been listed among the top five sophomores capable of providing an impact for the Longhorns.
Ranked third in the 247sports.com piece, Armanti Foreman averaged nearly 20 yards per touch last season and will see more than the 12 combined rushes and receptions he tallied as a freshman. He is projected to benefit from the arrival of new receivers coach Jay Norvell, who recruited him when Norvell had the same position at Oklahoma.
D’Onta Foreman is third behind Jonathan Gray and Donald Catalon on the depth chart. With Gray already established, the plan is to have Foreman see an extensive look during the spring football schedule in hopes of him taking a step forward to a bigger role.
GOLF
The first annual League City Little League Golf Tournament will be held on May 6 at the South Shore Harbour Country Club beginning with a 1:00pm shotgun start. Cost is $125 per player, which includes Green fee, cart, range balls, dinner, drinks and prizes. SOFTBALL
Prime Time Softball will host both a camp and a series of games for uncommitted high school players on June 25 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Pre-registration for the camp is required, as space is very limited. Registration began on Monday and will continue until all spots are filled. Cost is $150 per player.
Players can register at www.primetimesoftball.com.
TRACK & FIELD
Dickinson’s Lauryn Crawford has a solid start as a member of the University of Texas track and field team, as the former Gators standout earned a first and second place finish during the indoor season.
Crawford finished first in the Arkansas-Texas dual meet with a toss of 48’7.25 in the shot put, setting a personal best in the process, while also recording a second place in the weight throw with 44’9.50.
A four-time participant in the state Class 5A track and field state finals, Crawford finished second in the shot put as a junior and third in the same event as a senior. She will be joined on the Texas track and field team next fall by Texas City’s Asa Garza.
