Local teens recognized for fundraising efforts

RECENTLY the Friendswood High School cheerleaders and their coach, Kerrie Yee, were presented with awards from the Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization.
Annie Stafford from the Komen Race For The Cure presented the team with an award for being the largest high school fundraising team and the largest participating high school walking team.
Tania Cruz from Susan G. Komen was also on hand to present them with an award as one of the largest overall fundraising teams for 2015.
As a result of their efforts, FHS Cheer has been asked to attend one of the Susan G. Komen workshops to present their fundraising format for potential use as a blueprint for other high schools to promote cancer awareness and increase participation in The Race For The Cure.
The fundraising format, created by senior cheerleaders and their parents, is called FHS Cheer 4 Change and is a philanthropy program within cheer that promotes community leadership, service and fundraising among youth.
