NEITHER Hitchcock nor La Marque was able to measure up against the division II field in the annual Adidas 7on7 state tournament, as both the Bulldogs and Cougars were eliminated in pool play in College Station on Thursday.
Hitchcock fell in all three games in pool B, as the Bulldogs lost to Clyde high school 27-19 in their opening game before falling to Pilot Point 20-12 in their mid-afternoon contest.
The Bulldogs then played tight early against La Grange before falling 28-12 in their finale. With the defeat, they were pushed into the tourney’s consolation bracket but fell 20-7 to Levelland on Friday morning.
Despite playing tight in two of their three games, the Cougars were also winless in a very rugged pool C. They fell 25-20 to Eastland high school in their first game but were thrashed 39-12 by Canton in their second game. The team lost to three-time defending state 3A, division I champions Cameron Yoe in the final contest of the day.
Like the Bulldogs, the Cougars were pushed into the consolation round, where they were edged 21-19 to Hawley high school on Friday morning.
Dickinson, the area’s lone participant in the division I bracket, started play on Friday afternoon, when the Gators faced Abilene high school in the first of their three games in pool J.
The defending district 24-6A champs were due to take on state powerhouse Southlake Carroll later that afternoon before ending the day with a showdown against Round Rock McNeil.
Should the Gators advance, they were due to begin the championship tourney yesterday, Saturday, afternoon, while a loss would place them in the consolation round in the morning.
