Who Mentored You?

When you were young, who taught you how to ride a bike or to study for a test? Was there one person or multiple role models who helped you navigate the challenges of childhood? Maybe it was a parent, grandparent, a coach, or a teacher who helped you. Maybe you had multiple mentors. Every child deserves a someone who is instrumental in their development; someone who is there when they need them. No one does it alone.
In 2014 in Galveston County, 20% of children under the age of 18 were living in poverty. The simple things that may seem easy or straightforward to you now – going fishing, baking cookies, going to the movies – may be a complete mystery to a young person.
That’s why Big Brothers Big Sisters believes having a mentor is so important. Our “Bigs” fill a “Little’s” life with friendship, guidance, understanding and encouragement. Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Your support of Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters is vital to our sustaining this mission of mentoring. As a non-profit organization, we are responsible for raising 100% of our program and operating budget.
