Inspirations by Frances Durisseau
I recently added a member to our family, a new puppy. I hadn’t had a dog or puppy in quite a few years. My husband and I only had kitties since we were often gone from our home for long stretches of time, so a dog or puppy wouldn’t have been a reasonable choice. Cats are low maintenance for the most part and don’t need to be walked. I have discovered that my puppy, now three months old is like having a baby that quickly turns into a terrible two toddler. Thankfully she is very smart and training is progressing, but it is a full time job in many ways! She loves everyone including the kitties, but they are not being as loving in return which she doesn’t understand, and you can see her frustration and hurt feelings in her eyes and behavior. Have you ever felt like the outsider? The one that sometimes get picked on just because you are a little different in some ways? It can hurt us deeply. In the lessons of ‘cats and dogs’, I would encourage you to not be the one excluding another just because they are different than you. You could be missing out on making a friend for life. If you feel like you’ve been bullied, picked on, or are being treated indifferently, I’d like to encourage you to have hope. These issues often begin to resolve on their own but sometimes you have to put your paw down, decisively, and say no more! If it doesn’t get better, find someone that has your back that you can run to. Having that safe person can make a huge difference.
