Hitchcock Chamber Welcomes Online Grocery. How many times have you been relaxing at home, busy at work or enjoying a day out when you remember that you still have groceries to pick-up? Have you ever procrastinated at the task of going to the store and getting your groceries because you just do not have the energy and motivation to get out of your house, get in your car and go the store? If you answered yes to any of these questions, keep reading! Because the Wal-Mart in La Marque has opened a new service that will take care of all of these concerns.

The service involves online ordering and same day pick-up. The Post was present at the official launch of the event on Wednesday morning, where we were able to learn more about this service. And the most interesting aspect of this service is that it is only one of two that serves Galveston County. The only other one is in Kemah, which is surprising to me. This a service that I expect from all Wal-Mart stores and other franchises around the world. I’m surprised this is not something I had previously thought of.

Brad, the store manager of Wal-Mart in La Marque, spoke to the room full of Wal-Mart staff and guests. His enthusiasm and personable nature took over the room, to the point where we were all feeling energized at 9:00 in the morning. Brad gave us all the information we needed about the service and told us that it is “a great way to save time and money.”

The way the service works is that you can go online to walmart.com/grocery at any time of the day and select all of the groceries and products you want to buy. This service covers the entire store, so it doesn’t matter if you want to purchase food, clothes, toiletries, toys, videos, books or any other product Wal-Mart sells—because you can get any of it through this online service. Once you select all of your products, you select a shopping time. During this time, one of the Wal-Mart staff members will be your personal shopper and they will shop for you. Angela, the assistant manager at Wal-Mart of La Marque, wanted to emphasize the personal shopping point. “You can be assured that you will receive the best product because our shoppers will shop as if they were you,” she said. “For example, if they are shopping for bananas, they will pick the best bananas—the ones they believe you will like.”

After you have selected your shopping time, you then select a pick-up time. When your pick-up time arrives you drive to the side of the store where there is a reserved parking spot waiting for you. The staff will bring your items to the car, confirm that everything you asked for has been purchased and load up your car for you. Brad told the room that the staff have less than five minutes to load up your car and send you on your way. “We hope, with this service, it gives you more time to do the things you want.”

If this service did not already sound too good to be true, then it’s about to seem even more appealing. Why, you ask? Because the prices you pay if you shop online are the same as the ones in-store! And there is no extra cost that comes with purchasing your shopping online. I had a chance to speak to Angela after the event and she told me that “when it comes to payment, you pay online but the money isn’t taken until you drive away with your items.”

Adan Davila, eCommerce Market Coach of Wal-Mart, told guests that staff can take up to 30 orders per day and that your first order receives a free promo code. And on Wednesday—the service’s official launch day—the store had already had seven orders. “We had two staff members that were able to gather all the items in two hours,” Angela said.

This service is a great opportunity for people who are too busy to get to the store or for people who simply do not want to go. It also helps people who are impulse buyers or those who are shopping for an entire family. One of the staff told me about a person who always came in to Wal-Mart with a preset list but always ended up leaving with more than she came to pick-up because her children would want certain items. This service stops that from occurring. I urge you all to try the Wal-Mart online service as soon as possible!
