TOMORROW, THURSDAY: Thanksgiving is off, although the area’s high
school football teams will either be practicing and/or going through final walkthroughs
before area round action takes place on Friday and Saturday.
FRIDAY: Six of the area’s seven high school football teams will be in action as
the area round begins in the state playoffs. Friendswood (8-3) takes on Summer
Creek (7-3) in a Class 6A, Region III, Division II contest at NRG Stadium beginning
at noon. Clear Springs (8-2) meets North Shore (7-3) at Pasadena Veterans’
Stadium at 1:00pm in a 6A, Region III, Division I matchup, while Dickinson (8-2)
meets Atascocita (9-1) at Galena Park ISD Stadium in a 6A, Region III, Division I
contest starting at 2:00pm.
In Class 5A, Region III, Division I play, Galveston Ball (6-4) meets Port Arthur
Memorial (8-1) at League City’s Challenger-Columbia Stadium at 4:00pm.
Hitchcock (8-3) takes on West (9-2) in Brenham as the two teams seek to advance
in the Class 3A, Division I postseason starting at 7:30pm. The day ends with Texas
City (5-5) meeting Port Neches-Groves (9-1) in a 5A, Region III, Division II contest
at NRG Stadium scheduled for 8:00pm.
SATURDAY: La Marque bids to make a trip to the regional quarterfinals for the
first time since 2014 when the Cougars (6-5) meet Franklin (9-2) in a Class 3A,
Region III, Division I area matchup at Waller ISD Stadium at 1:00pm.
The Rockets welcome the Knicks for their sole appearance to Houston in the regular
season for a 7:00pm tip. The game will be aired by both AT&T Sportsnet (which
