CLEAR SPRINGS’ JOHNSON LOOKS TO HELP EAGLES SOAR ON SUPER SUNDAY

THEY ARE playing a football game of importance on Sunday, a game that will have a
former area high school football standout looking to help the Eagles hoist the Lombardi
Trophy for the first time in franchise history. The new week also starts with a host of hoops
and soccer along with the first scrimmages of the high school baseball season.
TODAY, SUNDAY: Clear Springs alum Marcus Johnson suits up for the Eagles as they
seek to dethrone the defending champion Patriots in Super Bowl 52, which kicks off at
5:30pm on KPRC-2. Johnson, who caught five passes for 45 yards during the regular
season, is the first Galveston County alum to play in the Big Game since Galveston Ball’s
Casey Hampton played for the Steelers in Super Bowl 45. There is also local flavor with
the Patriots as former La Marque standout Greg Robinson-Randall was a part of New
England’s first championship team in Super Bowl 36 while Texas City’s Vernon Crawford
played three seasons with the Pats in the late 1990s.
TOMORROW, MONDAY: The first shouts of “Play Ball!” will be heard throughout the
area as a host of area baseball teams take the field in scrimmages. Clear Brook at La
Porte, North Shore and Galveston Ball at Clear Creek (tri-scrimmage) and Dawson at
Clear Springs each begin at 4:00pm. Spring Woods at Clear Falls starts at 4:30pm, while
Hitchcock at Palacios and La Marque at Baytown Lee both start at 6:00pm. Crosby is at
Texas City with a 7:00pm start time.
A host of area varsity girls golf teams will be at Timber Creek Park for a tournament
hosted by Clear Brook.
TUESDAY: The home stretch for boys basketball starts at 7:00pm with Clear Springs at
Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Dickinson, Alvin at Clear Falls, Fort Bend Marshall at Galveston
Ball and Shadow Creek at Santa Fe. Each of the area’s three state-ranked boys teams
start at 7:30 as Texas City hosts Manvel, La Marque welcomes Rice Consolidated and
Hitchcock is in the role of guests when Houston Harmony visits the Dawg Pound.
State-ranked Hitchcock gets the girls hoops schedule under way with a home date against
Houston Harmony at 6:15pm, with Rice Consolidated at La Marque starting at the same
time. Clear Brook at state-ranked Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Alvin, Dickinson at Clear
Creek, Friendswood at Clear Lake, Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Marshall, Santa Fe at
Shadow Creek and Texas City at Manvel each start at 7:00pm.
In boys soccer, Fort Bend Willowridge at Santa Fe and Manvel at Galveston Ball each
start at 7:00pm, with Shadow Creek at Texas City starting at 7:10pm. Clear Creek at
Friendswood, Alvin at Dickinson and Clear Lake at Clear Brook each start at 7:30pm.
The girls soccer schedule will have Santa Fe at Fort Bend Willowridge and Galveston
Ball at Manvel starting at 7:00pm with Texas City at Shadow Creek starting at 7:10pm.
Clear Brook at Clear Lake, Friendswood at Clear Creek and Dickinson at Alvin are each
7:30pm starts.
Among the softball teams holding scrimmages will be Texas City, which visits Clear Brook
at 6:30pm and Santa Fe at Brazoswood, which starts at 7:00pm. Santa Fe’s baseball
team is also in action as the Indians face St. Pius X in a scrimmage that begins at 5:00pm.
The Rockets are on the road as they take on the Nets. beginning at 6:30pm. AT&T
Sportsnet Southwest will open their coverage with the pregame show at 6:00pm
