WITH AN eighth straight district championship locked up, Clear Springs’ girls basket- OFFERS A GAME FOR EVERYONE
ball team will look to head into the postseason with a ton of momentum and a spot in
the upper half of this week’s Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 6A poll.
The Chargers, who concluded their regular season against Clear Brook on Tuesday
night, are ranked 12th in the poll and sported a 24-7 record. Coach Pamela Crawford’s
team entered Tuesday’s game with a 13-0 record in District 24-6A and will start their
bid for a trip to the state Final Four in San Antonio when bi-district round play begins
on Monday and Tuesday.
Like Clear Springs, Hitchcock rolled through their district with little difficulty as the
District 24-3A champs carried a 23-6 record into their regular season finale, come into
the week ranked 21st in the girls 3A poll and will use the down time between now and
next week to gear up for a potential run to the state finals.
The boys basketball teams of Hitchcock, La Marque and Texas City remained ranked
in their respective classifications as the final Friday of regular season looms.
Texas City, 19-10 overall, is ranked 19th in the Class 5A poll and is assured of a postseason
berth. The Stingarees (10-3 in 23-5A) travel to Fort Bend Marshall on Friday
before closing out the regular season at home Tuesday against district leader Fort
Bend Elkins, who is ranked tenth in this week’s state poll.
A road win over East Bernard last Friday moved La Marque to 19-11 overall and 9-1
in District 24-3A while putting the Cougars in the 19th slot of the Class 3A poll. The
Coogs are off on Friday and will end the regular season at home against Brazos on
Tuesday.
Hitchcock rolled past Houston Harmony on Friday and stayed within shouting distance
of La Marque in 24-3A. The Bulldogs are ranked 20th this week and hosted East
Bernard on Friday.
