SIX AREA BOYS basketball teams bid for a trip to San Antonio, while the high school
baseball season begins. If that’s not enough, the first part of the week will also have
soccer, softball and golf to fill the schedule.
TODAY, SUNDAY: James Harden takes part in his sixth NBA All-Star game when the
Rockets guard starts for Team Stephen Curry beginning at 7:20pm. Unlike the typical
Eastern Conference versus Western Conference fare, this year’s game pits Curry and
his team of stars against a squad of All-Stars led by LeBron James. TNT will air the
game beginning at 7:00pm
TOMORROW, MONDAY: Boys high school basketball bi-district round action will see
state-ranked Hitchcock facing Buna in a Class 3A, Region III contest at East Chambers
High School beginning at 6:30pm.
Depending on the outcome of their games on Friday night, the girls basketball teams of
state-ranked Clear Springs, Galveston Ball and state-ranked Hitchcock could be playing
in Region III quarterfinal rounds either tonight or Tuesday. Clear Springs played
Summer Creek, Galveston Ball — which won its first playoff game in the history of the
school’s program — took on Kingwood Park while Hitchcock tangled with Crockett.
The high school baseball season starts as Clear Springs is at Brazoswood beginning
at 6:00pm. Friendswood at Angleton and Dobie at Clear Creek each start at 7:00pm.
La Marque opens its season at home against Houston Yates, but a start time had not
been announced as of Friday afternoon.
Galveston Ball’s girls golf team will host a District 23-5A meet at Moody Gardens,
while Santa Fe’s boys will be among the teams taking part at meet held at Magnolia
TUESDAY: Five more area boys basketball teams will be in Region III bi-district action
starting at 6:00pm when Clear Creek meets Pearland at Pasadena Field House.
Texas City faces Houston Furr at Houston’s Barnett Field House beginning at 7:00pm,
while Clear Springs meets Pearland Dawson at Pasadena Field House and District
24-6A champion Dickinson takes on Alief Taylor at Pearland Dawswon High School
at 7:30pm. State-ranked La Marque, who won District 24-3A, will face the winner of
Friday’s 23-3A play-in game between Hardin and Kirbyville at a place and time that
was determined late Friday night.
The boys soccer schedule will have Santa Fe at Fort Bend Elkins at 7:00pm, while
Texas City at Galveston Ball begins its match at 7:10pm. Clear Springs at Clear Creek,
Clear Brook at Clear Falls and Friendswood at Dickinson are each 7:30pm starts.
In girls soccer, Galveston Ball at Texas City is at 7:10pm, while Clear Falls at Clear
Brook, Clear Creek at Clear Springs, Dickinson at Friendswood and Fort Bend Elkins
at Santa Fe are each 7:30pm starts.
A light softball schedule will have Goose Creek Memorial at Clear Creek at 6:00pm,
while Texas City at Fort Bend Marshall and Santa Fe at Manvel each start at 6:30pm.
Two baseball games are on tap as Friendswood at Angleton and Clear Falls at Pasadena
Memorial are both 7:00pm.
