THREE DAYS OF DIAMOND LOVE CONVENES AT CCISD BASEBALL TOURNEY

THE CCISD Tourney will offer three days of outstanding high school baseball starting on
Thursday. The first weekend of March (already??) will also include a busy Friday night of
soccer while Saturday is highlighted by an explosive track and field meet at Dickinson along
with the Rockets and Celtics playing in what could be an NBA Finals preview.
TODAY, WEDNESDAY: Watching the Rockets requires staying up thru early Thursday
morning as they conclude a three-game road trip at the Clippers beginning at 9:30pm. Los
Angeles has won both meetings this season against the Rockets and will look to clinch the
season series. Both ESPN and AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game, with AT&T
starting their coverage with the pregame show beginning at 9:00pm.
TOMORROW, THURSDAY: A host of the top baseball teams in the Houston will converge
to the annual Clear Creek ISD Tournament. Each of the five CCISD high schools will be in
action along with the likes of Friendswood and Kingwood. Both Santa Fe and Texas City’s
baseball teams will be at the Brenham Tournament, while Dickinson participates in the
Crosby Invitational. Galveston Ball will be at the Barbers Hill Tournament, with Hitchcock
heading to Anahuac for the Panther Baseball Classic.
A pair of area softball teams will be in tournament action as Friendswood is at the Crosby
Tournament while Galveston Ball is at the Lamar CISD Tourney.
Texas City’s boys track team hits the road to San Marcos to take part in the Texas State
University relays.
FRIDAY: The boys soccer schedule will have Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Willowridge
at 7:00pm, while Galena Park at Texas City kicks off at 7:10pm. Dickinson at Alvin,
Friendswood at Clear Creek and Clear Brook at Clear Lake are each 7:30pm starts.
In girls soccer, Fort Bend Willowridge at Galveston Ball is a 7:00pm start, while Texas City
at Galena Park starts at 7:10pm. Clear Lake at Clear Brook, Alvin at Dickinson and Clear
Creek at Friendswood will each start at 7:30pm.
The night’s softball docket will start at 6:15pm with Clear Brook at Seven Lakes. Clear
Springs at La Porte, Fort Bend Marshall at Santa Fe and Fort Bend Elkins at Texas City will
start at 6:30pm.
Santa Fe will be hosting a track and field meet that will see the best of District 23-5A take
part as the season begins to perk up. La Marque’s track and field teams will at Stratford to
participate in the Spartans’ meet.
Depending on the outcome of games on Tuesday, both state-ranked La Marque and
Hitchcock could be in Waco for the Class 3A, Region III semifinals. The Cougars played
East Chambers at Baytown Lee College while the Bulldogs faced Kountze at Dayton High
School.
SATURDAY: The speed, power and grace of track and field will be on display at Sam
Vitanza Stadium as Dickinson hosts the Gators Relays. A host of top teams in the Houston
area are expected to compete along with Galveston Ball.
In what could be a preview of things to come, the Rockets host the Celtics in a nationallytelevised
game on ABC-13 at 7:30pm. Boston won the first meeting on December 28 as
they held off Houston 99-98. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will also air the game as both
networks will start their pregame shows at 7:00pm.
