THE FIELD … ON THE FIELD … ON THE FIELD by Brandon C. Williams

Today, Wednesday: The day is quiet when it comes to actual athletic events, yet it’s perfect for Astros scrounge for possible tickets to the first two games of the American League Division Series against Boston Red Sox. As of Monday, the Astros’ ticket office had only a handful of seats available. Prices go from $39 in the standing room only area to $175 for dugout seats. Fans can go to astros/tickets/postseason for more information.

Tomorrow, Thursday: Houston’s road to the World Series begins at 3:08pm when Game 1 of the ALDS begins at Minute Maid Park against the Red Sox. Boston throws ace Chris Sale (17-8, 2.90, major league-best 308 strikeouts), but the Astros have yet to announce who will get the nod. Chances are it will be either Dallas Keuchel (14-5, 2.90 ERA) or Justin Verlander (5-0, 1.06 ERA in five starts with Houston), with the other getting the start in Game 2. FS1 will have broadcast the game live (of course).

The Texas City Fall League will start its second week of play as teams throughout the Houston area get a chance to tuneup before next month’s start of regular season play. Games will be played at the Texas City high school gym from 4:00pm thru 8:00pm.

Friday: Game 2 of the ALDS starts at 1:05pm, with neither the Astros or Red Sox formally announcing who would make the start for their respective teams. FS1 will have the game live.

The volleyball schedule starts at 6:00pm with Alvin at Clear Springs, Dickinson at Clear Lake and La Marque at Danbury. Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Friendswood and Texas City at Galena Park each start at 6:30pm, while Houston Harmony is at Hitchcock starting at 7:00pm.

The wide-open District 24-6A football slate has Friendswood at Clear Falls, Clear Springs at Alvin and Clear Lake at Dickinson, with each starting at 7:00pm. In District 23-5A, Galveston Ball welcomes Manvel, the state’s number one team in 5A, while undefeated Santa Fe gets a visit from Texas City beginning at 7:00pm. La Marque plays host to Houston Madison at 7:30pm.

Saturday: The Texas City swimming team will be among those participating in the Dickinson Invitational at the Doyle Natatorium. The La Marque eighth grade volleyball team will conclude their participation at the GC-TASO Tournament at Ball High School while Texas City Blocker’s eighth grade B team concludes at the Manvel Junior High Tournament.
