Today, Wednesday: Today marks the first day of practice for girls basketball teams. Area programs will hit the hardwood with an eye on a possible trip to San Antonio for the state championships in early March.
The Rockets will play at Sacramento as they face a young Kings squad that looks to rebuild. Tipoff will be at 9:00pm, with AT&T Sportsnet starting its coverage at 8:30pm.
Tomorrow, Thursday: Two straight wins have put Texas City in good position to capture a playoff spot in District 23-5A. The Stingarees will have a chance to further bolster their standing when they visit Fort Bend Willowridge at 7:00pm. The Eagles are 1-4 overall and have lost their first three 23-5A contests by a composite 176-48 margin. Ronnie Hazard and Dennis Johns will call the action live online at victorysportsnet.com.
Friday: The final Friday of volleyball regular season play begins at 4:15pm when Friendswood travels to Clear Springs, while Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Elkins, Santa Fe at Manvel and Fort Bend Marshall at Texas City each start at 4:30pm. Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Clear Falls at Dickinson and Hitchcock at La Marque each begin at 6:00pm.
In high school football action, Clear Lake is at Clear Brook, Friendswood at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Falls, Alvin at Dickinson and Santa Fe at Galena Park. Each game starts at 7:00pm. Hardin is at Hitchcock and Anahuac at La Marque (Homecoming) will both kickoff at 7:30pm.
Saturday: Like Texas City, Galveston Ball has put themselves on the right track toward a 23-5A playoff spot as the Tornadoes sport a 2-1 record in district play. Coach Kimble Anders’ squad travels to Fort Bend Marshall for a 1:00pm kickoff as they face the state’s 16th ranked in Class 5A. Marshall is coming a 56-27 loss to Manvel, the state’s top team in 5A.
The state cross-country regional meet will be held at Huntsville’s Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park, as competitors seek to advance to the state finals next month.
All-Star guard Chris Paul makes his regular season home debut with the Rockets, who host their first contest of the 2017-18 campaign against the rival Dallas Mavericks. Gametime is set for 7:00pm, with AT&T Sportsnet starting its pregame coverage at 6:30pm
