(World) Seriously, it’s an Astronomical sports weekend

Today, Wednesday: Game 2 of the World Series starts at 7:00pm with the Astros going with Justin Verlander (4-0, 1.46 ERA in the postseason), while the Dodgers counter with Rich Hill (0-0, 3.00 ERA). Fox 26 will have the game live.
Houston sports fans will have an early start to the evening as the Rockets hit the road to take on an intriguing Philadelphia 76ers squad beginning at 6:00pm. Houston will be without Chris Paul, as he will be out up to a month with his knee bruise.AT&T Sportsnet will have the game live beginning with the pregame show at 5:30pm.

Tomorrow, Thursday: Texas City’s boys swimming team will host a meet at the Doyle Natatorium beginning at 5:00pm. The day will also have the regional team tennis tournament at Katy High School. Friendswood was the area’s only team to advance to the second round and played Kingwood on Tuesday for the right to reach Katy.

Friday: With two weeks left in the high school football regular season, playoff positioning becomes paramount. The action starts at 7:00pm with Clear Brook at Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Alvin, Friendswood at Clear Lake, Galena Park at Galveston Ball, Fort Bend Willowridge at Santa Fe and Manvel at Texas City. Hardin is at Hitchcock and La Marque travels to East Chambers, with both games kicking off at 7:30pm.
The Manvel at Texas City game will also honor the team’s 1997 Class 4A state championship team. Coach Rusty Dowling’s Stings finished 14-1 and captured the school’s first state football title with a thrilling win over Corsicana in the state championship game. The game will also be on the Victory Sports Net site, with Ronnie Hazard and Dennis Johns on the call.
Game 3 of the World Series comes to Minute Maid Park as the Astros welcome the Dodgers as the two teams face off in Houston for a postseason game for the first time since 1981. Los Angeles has already announced that Yu Darvish (1-2, 1.59 ERA in two postseason starts) will take the mound for the National League champs, while the Astros — as of Monday — had not named their starter. A good guess would be Charlie Morton, one of the heroes of the pennant-clinching victory over the Yankees last Saturday.
Saturday: Dickinson visits Clear Creek in a 1:00pm kickoff that will feel more like an elimination game. Both teams are 2-2 in District 24-6A and a loss for either the Gators or Wildcats will put their postseason hopes in the hands of other teams. The added bonus for this game is that it will likely be the first game this season played in actual fall-like weather, as the forecast is expected to be sunny and windy with temps in the upper 50s.
Game 4 of the World Series starts at 7:00pm. Those unable to get into Minute Maid Park can watch the game live on Fox 26. As of Monday, neither the Dodgers nor Astros have announced a starter for the game. With game time temps expected to be in the mid-to-upper 50s, the question of whether the game will be played with the roof open is intriguing.
