Being the change that I wanted to see hasn’t always been
my life’s story. Actually, growing up, I was the kid that
people would point at and tell their kids not to be like that.
I grew up in a rough neighborhood and at an early age
became a product of my environment. Doing and dealing
drugs was a norm for me. So if you think about it, I actually
needed to change before I could become the change
that I wanted to see.
After a few prison stints, a couple of drug overdoses,
and just feeling like I was at the end of my rope, and at the
end of my self – knowing that I couldn’t do it on my own,
is when God finally stepped in and took the steering
wheel to my life and put me on a different path. That is
why I can stand here as the man I am today and speak
about the things I have been through and try to give you
encouragement to know that no matter where you are
at in your race, you can still win.
These last couple of years Being the Change that
I wanted to See has been my motto because I have
learned that people don’t necessarily listen to what you
are saying but they will pay attention to what you are
doing. In order for people around you to change course
and direction in their life, sometimes it takes you to lead
the way. For the last three years I have come together
with friends that have the same heartbeat and passion
for people in our community and we began hosting a
yearly event called ‘BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO
SEE”. If you are not familiar with this event, what we do
is serve free food, give away turkeys to families, raffle
toys to the kids and provide entertainment for them as
well. There are wonderful testimonies and inspirational
guest speakers with encouraging words. Experience
has taught me one thing and that is people won’t care
how much you know until they know how much you
care. This is an event free of charge to anyone that
wants to come. It doesn’t matter what denomination,
race, age, creed, or sexuality; because in the Bible, it
says we were all made from one blood. When we all
get to Heaven there will be no division, no differences,
no better, no worse.
So I would like to encourage you and anyone you
may know to please come out to this year’s event. Be a
part of something great in our community and You can
help Be The Change You Want To See.
