Where Football Ends For Some, Basketball Begins For All

For several area teams, high school football season ends over the weekend. However, the silver lining is that many players will start the conversion to boys’ basketball, which begins the regular season on Friday. The girls’ hoops slate will be highlighted by the annual Peggy Whitley Tournament that begins Thursday.

Wednesday: The Texas City boys’ basketball team scrimmages at Dawson at 4:30 pm.

For the third time in less than two weeks, the Rockets face the Spurs, with San Antonio dropping into Toyota Center. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:30 pm with the pregame show, followed by the game at 7:00 pm.

Thursday: Girls basketball tournament play is highlighted by the annual Peggy Whitley Tournament hosted by Clear Creek ISD. All five school teams will be in action along with Ball during the three-day event. Meanwhile, Dickinson and Texas City are at the Baytown Lee Tournament, and La Marque competes in the Conroe Tournament. 

Friday: The final week of the high school football regular season kicks off at 7:00 pm with Clear Brook at Brazoswood, Clear Creek at Clear Springs (Challenger/Columbia), Clear Falls at Clear Lake (Veterans Memorial), state-ranked Lufkin at Ball, Terry at Santa Fe (Clear Life Media Game of the Week), and Texas City at Iowa Colony (Victory Sports Network).

As football ends, boys’ basketball begins at 7:00 pm with Oak Ridge at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at La Porte, Clear Falls at Houston Leland Prep, Pearland at Clear Springs, Sam Rayburn at Santa Fe, and Crosby at Texas City. State-ranked Dickinson faces Summer Creek at the Houston Tip-Off at Stafford High School at 7:30 pm.

In college football, Rice visits Memphis at 8:00 pm on ESPN2.

The Rockets visit the Thunder at 7:00 pm. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:30 pm with the pregame show.

Saturday: State-ranked Dickinson has another high-profile boys’ basketball matchup when they take on state-ranked Fort Bend Marshall at the Season Opener held at Campbell Coliseum at noon. State-ranked Friendswood is at the On the Radar ShowCase at 1:00 pm.

Friendswood closes out the regular season at Fort Bend Kempner at 6:30 pm.

The college football schedule has Florida at #5 Texas (KTRK13) at 11:00 am, followed by Nicholls at Houston Christian (ESPN+), Lamar at Incarnate Word (ESPN+), Florida A&M at Prairie View (ESPN+) at 2:00 pm, and Stephen F. Austin at Texas A&M-Commerce (ESPN+) at 3:30 pm.
