Pads Pop as Football Scrimmages Open

After a week or so of hitting each other, high school football teams get to hit someone else as scrimmages begin on Thursday. The week is also filled with high school volleyball tournaments, highlighted by the Pearland tourney that will include four area teams.

Wednesday: The Astros host the Red Sox at 6:10 PM. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 5:30 PM with the pregame show. 

Thursday: The volleyball tournament play is highlighted by teams such as Clear Brook, Clear Springs, Friendswood, and Santa Fe, among others, participating in the Pearland Tournament. Meanwhile, Ball hosts a varsity tournament (Thursday and Saturday), with Clear Creek at the Katy/Cy Fair ISD Tournament, and Clear Falls at the LGE Varsity Tournament in Georgetown. Dickinson is at the Round Rock Westwood Varsity Tournament, and La Marque is at the Van Vleck Tournament (Thursday, Saturday).

The high school football scrimmage schedule will have La Marque at Brazosport at 6 PM. Manvel at Clear Falls and Spring Legacy at Texas City both start at 7 PM.

Friday: The volleyball schedule has Hitchcock at Stafford and Milby at La Marque at 5 PM, while CE King at Ball begins at 6:30 PM.

There’s also tennis on the slate with Shadow Creek at Clear Creek beginning at 3:15 PM, and Clear Springs at Barbers Hill at 3:30 PM. Elsik at Ball and Clear Brook at La Porte both start at 4 PM.

More high school football scrimmage play as Alvin at Ball and Dawson at Clear Springs begin at 6 PM, while Port Lavaca Calhoun at Hitchcock and Columbia at Santa Fe start at 7 PM. 

The Astros open a weekend set against the visiting Orioles at 7:10 PM. Space City Home Network starts at 6:30 PM with the pregame show. 

Saturday: Texans fans get their first opportunity to see their team when they host the Panthers for a preseason tilt at noon. KTRK13 will have the game live.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys welcome the Ravens for their preseason home opener at 6 PM. 

The Orioles and Astros begin the middle game of their series at 6:10 PM. Space City Home Network starts coverage at 5:30 PM with the pregame show.
