The 2025 high school football season writes its first chapter on Thursday as Clear Creek kicks off things for local teams. Highlighting Week 1 is a huge Houston area tilt as Dickinson aims at Katy in a matchup of state-ranked squads.
Wednesday: The Astros host the Rockies at 7:10 PM. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:30 PM with the pregame show.
Thursday: Clear Creek gets the honor of being the first area high school team to kick off the 2025 football season when the Wildcats visit Kingwood at 7 PM.
Among the volleyball teams participating in tournament play are Clear Springs, Friendswood, and Santa Fe at the VolleyPalooza Tourney in Austin. Dickinson is at the Needville Tourney, while La Marque and Hitchcock in the Sweeney Tournament.
There will be daytime baseball in Houston as the Astros meet the Rockies at 1:10 PM. Space City Home Network starts coverage at 12:30 PM with the pregame show. The game will also be aired on MLB Network.
The local college football season begins with Stephen F. Austin at Houston at 7 PM (ESPN+), and UNLV at Sam Houston State at 8:30 PM (CBS Sports Network).
Friday: It’s the first Friday of the high school football regular season as Manvel at Ball, Dobie at Clear Brook (Veterans Memorial Stadium), Hightower at Clear Falls (Challenger-Columbia), Fort Bend Marshall at Friendswood, Anahuac at state-ranked Hitchcock, Huffman-Hargrave at La Marque, Clear Springs at Ridge Point, and Brazoswood at Santa Fe each kick off at 7 PM.
The volleyball schedule has Cy Falls at Clear Brook, Katy at Clear Creek, and Clear Falls at Crosby at 5:30 PM, followed by Texas City at Dayton at 6 PM. Houston Heights at Ball begins at 6:30 PM.

Saturday: Week 1 of the high school football season concludes with state-ranked Dickinson at state-ranked Katy and Texas City at Sterling at 7 PM.
The first full weekend of college football starts with a bang as #1 Texas visits #3 Ohio State at 11 AM (KRIV26). Texas-San Antonio at #19 Texas A&M kicks off at 6 (ESPN), followed by Arkansas Baptist at Houston Christian at 6:30 PM (ESPN+). Rice at Louisiana (ESPN+), Lamar at North Texas (ESPN+), and Prairie View at Texas Southern each kick off at 7 PM.
