Ike Tourney Offers Plenty of Tennis Love

There’s plenty to watch this weekend, with high school and college football taking much of the space, yet the Ike Tournament in Galveston will be a great opportunity for local tennis fans to see some of the top young talent in the Greater Houston Area on Friday and Saturday.

Wednesday: The Astros say goodbye to the Rangers for the 2021 season as the teams play in the series finale at Minute Maid Park starting at 7:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (Houston) and Bally’s Sports Southwest (Texas) will each start their pregame shows at 6:30pm. 

Thursday: Week 3 of the high school football season begins with Clear Springs at Klein Forest, Hitchcock at La Marque (game can be heard on Victory Sports Network) and Santa Fe at Sam Rayburn beginning at 7:00pm.

Friday: The high school football schedule continues with Pasadena Memorial at Clear Brook (Challenger/Columbia), Clear Creek at Channelview, Clear Falls at Houston Lamar, Dobie at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Houston Sterling and UNAL Monterey at Texas City (game can be heard on Victory Sports Network) at 7:00pm.

Meanwhile the high school volleyball slate starts with Clear Falls at Clear Brook at 4:15pm, followed by Texas City at Manvel at 5:30pm. Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Springs and Danbury at Hitchcock start at 6:00pm, with Galveston Ball at Friendswood and Santa Fe at La Porte each starting at 6:30pm.

Galveston Ball will host the two-day Ike Tournament, which will see the tennis teams of Texas City, Friendswood and the CCISD schools among those in action.

La Marque and Texas City will be among the cross-country teams participating at the East Beach Run that will be hosted by Galveston Ball. 

The Astros begin a weekend set with the visiting Angels at 7:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.

Saturday: Week 3 of the high school football season concludes with Friendswood at Fort Bend Kempner at 6:00pm. 

The college football schedule starts with #1 Alabama at Texas (Fox) at 11:00am, followed by Appalachian State at #6 Texas A&M (ABC) at 2:30pm. #24 Houston visits Texas Tech (Fox Sports 1) at 3:00pm before Northern Arizona at Sam Houston State (ESPN+), Lindenwood at Houston Baptist (ESPN3), Lamar at SMU (ESPN+) and Stephen F. Austin at Louisiana Tech (ESPN3) at 6:00pm. Texas Southern at North Texas (ESPN3) and McNeese State at Rice (ESPN3) both start at 6:30pm before Prairie View at Abilene Christian (ESPN+) concludes the local schedule at 7:00pm.
