Most of the area’s baseball teams will be involved in tournament play this weekend as district play looms over the horizon. The end of the week will also mark the conclusion of the high school soccer season with playoff positioning on the line for several squads.
Wednesday: The Rockets get a rare national TV appearance when they welcome former Rockets All-Star James Harden and the Clippers at 6:30pm. Space City Home Network will also have the game beginning with the pregame show at 6:00pm.
Thursday: Baseball tourney play highlights the day. The bulk of the area’s teams will be part of the Goose Creek ISD Invitational with Clear Brook, Clear Springs, Dickinson, Galveston Ball and Texas City among the teams participating. Meanwhile, Friendswood and Santa Fe will be at the Alvin ISD Tourney, while Clear Creek is at the Battle of the Bay Tournament, and Clear Falls at the Gary Harrington Tournament. Hitchcock travels to the Boling Tournament.
Friday: The boys’ soccer regular season finales will have Clear Brook at Dickinson, Clear Creek at Clear Falls, La Porte at Friendswood and Manvel at Santa Fe each starting at 7:30pm.
Each of the girls’ matches will also start at 7:30pm with Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Brook at Brazoswood, Friendswood at La Porte and Santa Fe at Manvel closing out their regular seasons.
The softball schedule will have Hitchcock at Boling at 5:00pm, followed by La Marque at Brazosport at 6:00pm. Clear Falls at Dickinson, Clear Lake at Clear Brook and Texas City at Galveston Ball each starting at 7:00pm. Clear Brook at Brazoswood begins at 7:00pm.
In track and field, Clear Creek hosts the Ruben C. Jordan Classic with Clear Falls, Clear Springs, Dickinson and Friendswood also competing. Clear Brook will be at Summer Creek for the Generation Park Invitational.
The only non-tourney baseball game will have La Marque at Brazosport at 6:00pm.
The Rockets begin a three-game road trip with a visit to Portland for a 9:00pm clash against the Trail Blazers. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 8:30pm with the pregame show.
Saturday: Both Galveston Ball and La Marque close out their soccer regular seasons. La Marque is at Needville as the girls start at 10:00am and the boys at 12:00pm. Galveston Ball’s team will be at Angleton at 12:00pm, the same time the girls start at home against the Wildcats.
Top-ranked Houston will host one of the biggest men’s basketball games in the program’s recent history when the Cougars welcome #14 Kansas for a 3:00pm showdown. The game will be aired live on ESPN.
