In 2004, former Mayor Chuck Doyle
formed a project designed to guide
young Middle School and High School
students in a leadership training program
that has since grown to touch the lives of
students in Galveston, Dickinson, Hitchcock
and Santa Fe. Texas First Bank
pledged to fund the program, in full, for
ten years, in partnership with Foundation
for the Future. In 2014, he renewed
the pledge for another ten years.
Through this program, students benefit
from career development opportunities
in nine different professional fields.
They are exposed to workshops that help
them develop leadership, communication
and team building skills. Many students
have been able to work with local
business leaders who serve as mentors
during their time in the program. These
are just a sampling of many innovative
and creative workshops, programs and
challenges; some actually developed by
the students in the program.
This last week, Doyle presented
TCISD Foundation for the Future with
a check for $10,000 to Ms. Deborah
Laine, Executive Director at Texas City
ISD Foundation for the Future, and Dr.
Rodney Cavness, Superintendent of
Schools TCISD to continue to support
this program.
