Authenticity
Today is the day we celebrate, honor, and give our highest respect to our Fathers. I was blessed with a wonderful Dad. With a third-grade education, from having to remain home to take care of his siblings and help his ailing mother, he went to college when he was nearing sixty years old. He pushed me (in a good way) to believe that I could do or be anything I wanted to be, long before the days of what we would call back then Women’s Lib . His word and handshake were genuine, when some of the others around me were often about putting on an outward show, sweeping things under the rug, and living lives by appearances instead of truthfully. He was a man of integrity. Being authentic and being who you are, wherever you are, and whoever is around you was the biggest lesson I learned from him. My late husband was another example of authenticity in my life and in the lives of my children who he stepped up and became a father to. Authenticity. A priceless gift you can give your children, family, friends, community, and coworkers. Get real! Be authentic! It will a legacy that lives on for generations.
