The 12th Annual Michael D. Riley Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting The Salvation Army of Galveston County has returned and is scheduled for October 23, 2023 at Moody Gardens Golf Course.

Hosted by Moody Gardens, the tournament honors the memory of Michael Riley, who impacted Galveston from the time he moved here in 1985 until his untimely passing in 2009. He served as Executive Director of Moody Gardens, overseeing construction of the Discovery Museum, the Moody Gardens Hotel and the Aquarium Pyramid. He was named President of Moody Gardens in 2000. He supported many great causes in Galveston, including The Salvation Army where he served on the Advisory Board. He is still greatly missed by the community.

The last Michael D. Riley Memorial Golf Tournament was held in 2020, spread out over a two-week period to promote social distancing. First place was awarded via Zoom by the team of Maintenance of Galveston. Second place went to American National Insurance and third place went to Gilbane Construction. The traditional one-day 2023 tournament is a scramble with shotgun start at 1:00pm.

Sponsorships and registration for the tournament is open. Details can be found at SalvationArmyGalvestonCounty.org under Events or by contacting Major David Swyers at The Salvation Army at 813-557-2450 or at David.Swyers@uss.SalvationArmy.org.
