If there’s a sign the year is coming to an end, it comes from the start of high school soccer scrimmages, which begin this weekend. Teams from across the state will kick the rust off as the first steps toward a championship in April begin.

Wednesday: The undefeated University of Houston men’s basketball team hosts Rice beginning at 7:00pm. The game will be aired on ESPN+.

Thursday: Let there be basketball tourneys as most of the area’s boys’ teams are in play. Clear Brook is in Tuloso-Midway at the Pride of Texas Tournament, while Clear Creek is at the Port Arthur Memorial Tourney. Dickinson is at the Cy Hoops Tourney, with Friendswood heading to the Lufkin Tournament. State-ranked Hitchcock is at the Central Heights Tournament, while La Marque is at the Orangefield Tourney. Santa Fe takes part in the Splendora Tournament, and Texas City competes at the Decatur Tournament.

In swimming, Clear Brook visits Clear Lake at 6:00pm.

Friday: The girls’ basketball schedule starts at 6:00pm with Friendswood at St. Agnes, followed by Houston Memorial at Clear Brook, Alief Taylor at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Alvin, and Dickinson at Dawson at 7:00pm.

Soccer scrimmages begin as Texas City’s boys host South Houston and Texas City’s girls visiting Sweeney. The girls start at 7:00pm, while the boys begin at 7:30pm.

Texas City’s swim team takes on Clear Lake, while Clear Brook and Clear Springs are both in Pearland for the two-day Reindeer Classic.

The Rockets face the Nuggets for the fourth and final time this season as they visit the defending NBA champions at 8:00pm. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 7:30pm with the pregame show.

Saturday: Houston men’s basketball team will seek to remain undefeated when they welcome Jackson State for a 3:00pm tip. ESPN+ will have the game live.
