Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for post-secondary studies, potentially adding up to $4,000 over four semesters were awarded to three high school seniors by the Marine Corps League of Galveston County at Texas City High School.
The recipients were:
Mauro Duarte-NROTC (Navy/Marine) He will be attending the University of Oklahoma.
Callie Dupree – AROTC (Army) She will be attending Texas A&M University.
Alexiah Smith – She will be attending Tulsa Welding School & Technology Center.
“I love to see kids who want to advance in their future education through college or trade school,” said Marine Sgt. Maj. Ramon Nash, who serves as the senior Marine instructor for MCJROTC at Texas City High School. “We are here to support students, whether they are going into the military or choose civilian life.
Nash, along with Gunnery Sgt. Travis Daniels, who is also a Marine instructor, guide young people in developing discipline, leadership and other skills needed for military service.
The Marine Corps League is formed of men and women who have served in the United States Marines and work together as volunteers to enhance their communities.
