Astros take brief trip to meet Rockies
JULY BRINGS THE promise of one quiet month before the sound of volleyballs and shoulder pads usher in the 2019-20 athletic calendar for area high school sports. Until then, it’s all about the Astros and Tackle Time.
Sunday: The Astros conclude the month of June by finishing a weekend set with the Mariners beginning at 1:10pm. Gerrit Cole (7-5, 3.42 ERA) takes the mound for Houston and will be opposed by Seattle’s Marco Gonzales (9-6, 4.34 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its coverage beginning with the pregame show at 12:30pm.
Monday: No live sports today, but the Rockets will merit watching during the first full day of NBA Free Agency, which began at 5:00pm on Sunday. The team has been the subject of various rumors leading into the weekend that have included center Clint Capela and All-Star guard Chris Paul. The franchise has become interested in Houston native and 76ers All-Star Jimmy Butler as a possible piece to get the Rockets over the hump in the Western Conference.
The day also includes the 57th Annual Texas City-La Marque Jaycees Tackle Time at Texas City Dike. The event started on Thursday, but there is still time to register and compete for prizes. Visit the Tackle Time website for more information.
Tuesday: Brad Peacock (6-6, 4.13 ERA) takes the mound for the Astros in the first of a brief two-game set the Rockies. Colorado will turn to ace starter German Marquez (8-3, 4.29 ERA) when the first pitch is tossed at 7:10pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.
