I was traveling home from work last year, when I met a school bus coming from the opposite direction. As I was approaching, the bus stopped to let a child off. The red lights started flashing and the “STOP” signs appeared on both sides, so I slowed to a complete stop.
Now, this was a busy time on that highway, so there were several cars who had to stop behind me. Suddenly, someone gave an anxious honk for me to go. But I stayed put! You have to stop when a bus is unloading children!
The honks continued.
Then I started second guessing my decision, “Oh, but this is a highway. Maybe you don’t have to stop on a highway? I mean, there was a pasture on the right side of me, no child would be crossing here, right???”
As the honking persisted, I made the decision to stay put until the red lights stopped flashing and the bus started to go again. But I still wondered if I had made a mistake.
Well, at the beginning of this school year I caught a news segment where a DPS officer explained the school bus rules when traveling from the opposite direction. It was pretty simple, when there is a painted divider between you and the bus, you must stop. When it is a raised divider or median, you don’t have to stop.
That was so helpful!
Now, I have a renewed confidence when approaching a school bus because I know the laws!
Well, this lesson could apply to Spiritual laws as well. After speaking with many Christians over the years, I believe most of us don’t know/understand that God has ordained spiritual laws for our benefit.
Such as, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, those who love it will eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21 That is a Spiritual law that God has set in place, and written down for us to apply to our lives by faith.
You know, when I heard this scripture for the first time I was just given a diagnosis of MS back in 2007. Yet, being ignorant of the will of God for my life, the heart of God, and His written word- I was unaware that “God is for me not against me.”(Romans 8:31) And I did not know what I had inherited when I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior (born again), 10 years earlier.
Therefore, I was already brought up under the teaching that God is Sovereign, that nothing can happen here on this earth, bad or good, without His direct involvement, or consent.
Well, I didn’t want to be sick, but because of that teaching I was ready to accept (come into agreement) with this illness as the will of God. I was unaware of what His word said. I had never studied it for myself with the purpose of knowing my Heavenly Father’s heart, or His
plan (full Gospel message) through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
When Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave, judgement was placed on Him. As God in the flesh, He took into Himself all of the fall out from a fallen world. He took into His body every sickness, and every penalty/curse for sin.
In Deuteronomy Chapter 28 you will see the extensive list of curses that would come if laws were disobeyed, as well as all of the blessings for obedience. Which included health, wealth, national security- every provision needed here on this earth would be supernaturally provided.
Well, praise God that we are no longer under those laws (which had a purpose at that time), because Jesus fulfilled the law for us, and took the hit for mankind, so that we can receive/take what we did not/could not earn.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written), “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promises of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13-14
Therefore, when I started listening to the correct teachings, and studying the Bible for myself, I realized that it was not God causing or allowing me to be sick, rather it was Satan attempting to “steal” the word of God from me, in order to “kill” and “destroy” me. John 10:10
Well, my mustard size seed of faith kicked in and I kicked out the Devil/MS from my body/life in 2007 and it had to flee.
That’s another spiritual law … “Submit to God (adhere to His word), resist the Devil, and he will flee (run in terror) from you.” James 4:7
You know, the truth is “we ARE more than conquerors in Christ Jesus!”
If you are a born again believer in Christ Jesus, then you can’t lose for winning!!
“The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, abides/lives, inside of your new born again Spirit, and He will give life to your mortal body.” Romans 8:11
Jesus not only paid for our sins, but He also redeemed us from the curses that came from living in a fallen/cursed world.
But God is love. And “love” will not force its own will upon us.
The Spiritual laws in God’s word are activated by faith in what God has already provided for us by grace. When we read/hear/believe/speak the word of God by faith, then spiritual laws are activated/manifested in the physical realm.
Yet, if you only go by second hand information, (sermons, or hearsay etc), then you will not be steadfast in your faith. So when symptoms or situations in your life start “honking” at you, then you will waiver in your faith through doubt and unbelief.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubt, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”James 1:5-8
And the reason we can’t receive anything from the Lord is not because He is holding back any good thing from us- it is because our faith is not in agreement with God at the time. (You know, over 16 years ago, I received my freedom from a 20 year drug addiction and a 32 year cigarette addiction but it was not because of God’s time- we are not waiting on God’s timing for deliverance- we were delivered over 2,000 years ago. Jesus broke the chains of bondage for us – He purchased our freedom with His blood and the prison doors were opened wide so with this knowledge we can walk in victory.)
There is so much more I could say here, because I believe the Lord wants us to know His/heart and His will and testament for His children.
It is the law of faith that allows us to receive “every good gift, and every perfect gift from our Heavenly Father- so that His Kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. James 1:17
