“When you can’t change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails,” is a quote from inspirational writer, H. Jackson Brown, Jr. My life has not been an easy one. It’s not an easy one now. The last six years have been very difficult, and over 4 years ago, I lost my husband. Day to day survival has been very difficult since then. Social Security does not go very far with the cost of living being what it is. My health care plan had to be given up because I couldn’t afford it, and I am not old enough for Medicare. I no longer have a car.
When I tell you, I understand some of the storms you are going through I honestly mean it. I know what it feels like to wonder how you are going to get through the month after you pay the bills and rent on the first of the month. Why am I not depressed, upset, complaining and crying? Because I found out that I must learn to adjust my sails. That’s what I have continued to do through each storm that I’ve faced. It’s a choice. We all have stormy times. Seas may be rough and may toss our ship around a bit. It is in those times that we all need to remember to adjust our sails and ride out the storm in a new direction. I’ve found that I’m a better sailor than I ever imagined.
