Here we are welcoming in a new month, in this new year and decade. With all the sadness going on right now, I’ve been reflecting on how I will deal with it all. Sadness and grief are not new to me. I am growing through it. I have a special quilt that a friend made for me one of the times I was in the hospital. I cherish that quilt. I look at every piece that was stitched together in love. It is beautiful, colorful, and so representative of life. Our lives, as the great Carole King sang about, are a tapestry. There are pieces of joy, love, happiness, as well as the sadness, grief, and difficult times. They are stitched together with love to design a life and everything that it holds. When I wrap myself up in, or cover up with my special quilt, it reminds me of the tapestry of my own life. February is the month that we celebrate love. I pray that like a beautiful quilt, you wrap yourself up in love, memories of the love you have known in your life, and that it keeps you warm and comforted on the days that feel cold. Thank you, Carole King, for these lyrics. “My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue, An everlasting vision of the ever-changing view, A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold, A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold.” Happy February!
