UNIVERSITY of Houston’s new Fertitta Center will host its first event on December 1 when the Cougars men’s basketball team hosts University of Oregon, UH athletic director Chris Pezman announced during a Monday press conference.
The Houston women’s basketball team will play its first game in their new confines on December 5 when they welcome national powerhouse Texas A&M.
Still under construction, Pezman also announced that Feritta Center is ahead of schedule. Seat installation will get underway next month for the approximately 7,100-seat facility and is slated for completion in November.
The U of H athletic website currently has a 3-D view for fans to help choose where they would prefer to sit when purchasing season tickets for the 2018-19 season. Seat selection will begin next month with Ferittta Center donors of over $500, Cougar Pride Members, fans who have placed deposits for the 2018-19 regular season along with 2017-18 season ticket holders who have priority.
Feritta Center, named for UH alumnus and Houston Rockets owner Tillman Fertitta, will replace the venerable Hofheinz Pavillon, which had housed the Cougars men’s and women’s basketball teams from 1969 thru 2017. The teams used the Health and Physical Education Center, located on the campus of Texas Southern University, during the past college basketball season and will continue to do so until Fertitta Center is opened.
