THE TEXANS would love to end the month with a win, while the Astros go into
October in defense mode. Junior high school football and volleyball are also part
of a docket that now adds the Rockets until mid-June (at least they hope so).
SUNDAY: The Texans visit the Colts as they seek their first win of the regular
season in a city that has been pure torture for them since they began play in
2002. Houston has just two wins in Indianapolis and is only 7-25 lifetime against
their AFC South rivals. KHOU-11 will have the game beginning at noon.
Cowboys fans will get a chance to watch their 1-2 team host the Lions on Fox-26
at noon. Dallas comes off a loss at Seattle while Detroit comes to AT&T Stadium
with momentum following a surprisingly easy win over defending AFC champion
New England on Sunday night. The Cowboys have won the last two meetings
against the Lions and hold a 13-11 series edge.
In their final tuneup before beginning defense of their World Series Champions,
the Astros close out the regular season at the Orioles. Charlie Morton (15-3, 3.18
ERA) gets the 162nd start for Houston and will be opposed by Sean Gilmartin
(1-0, 2.88 ERA), who starts the final game in what has been the worst season
in the history of the Baltimore franchise. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins its
coverage at 1:30pm as it leads into the 2:05pm start time.
MONDAY: There will be a host of junior high school football and volleyball
games, with Texas City Blocker Middle School involved in both sports. Blocker’s
seventh grade B and A football teams hosts Alvin Fairview Junior High School
with games played at 5:00pm and 6:00pm, while the seventh grade B and A volleyball
teams welcome Fairview for matches at 5:00pm and 6:00pm.
La Marque’s seventh grade volleyball teams travel to meet Lake Jackson Intermediate
with the B team playing at 5:00pm and the A team starting its match at
6:00pm.
TUESDAY: The high school volleyball schedule begins with Hitchcock at Van
Vleck at 5:00pm. Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Clear Springs and
Clear Lake at Dickinson each start their matches at 6:00pm, while Galveston Ball
at Santa Fe and Friendswood at Texas City will start their respective matches at
6:30pm.
Among the junior high teams playing football, Friendswood’s eighth grade A
team is at home against Alvin at 5:00pm.
Just when you thought the sports schedule was full enough, along comes the
NBA to further fill it up. The Rockets open preseason play when they host the
Grizzlies at Toyota Center beginning at 7:00pm. After narrowly missing the NBA
Finals, the franchise re-signed guard Chris Paul and center Clint Capela before
trading for Carmelo Anthony and Marquese Chriss. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest
starts its coverage of the 2018-19 season with the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Tickets, however, remain in regular season cost mode, which means fans will
be paying top-end prices to see the starters make a brief appearance before the
reserves roll in.
