ALTHOUGH THE ASTROS AND ROCKETS dominate the sports scene, the sight of high school football is welcomed in the form of La Marque, which will get its one scrimmage under its belt before starting the 2020 season next week. The Cougars will also see action on the court when their volleyball makes a road trip on Saturday.

Wednesday: Framber Valdez (1-2, 1.90 ERA) gets the call for the Astros in the third game of the series against the Rockies, who will counter with Ryan Castellani (0-0, 1.04 ERA) when the teams collide at 7:40pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest hits the air with the pregame show at 7:00pm.

Thursday: La Marque will be the area’s first high school football team to hit the field when they scrimmage at East Bernard. The Brahmas come off a 14-1 season that saw them advance to the Class 3A, Division II semifinals and will feature running back Kobe Brown, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last season. The junior varsity scrimmage starts at 5:00pm, with the varsity hitting the field for 6:00pm.

Concluding a 10-game homestand, the Astros will turn to rookie Cristian Javier (2-1, 2.91 ERA) in the series finale against the Rockies starting at 2:10pm. Colorado puts the ball into the hands of ace German Marquez (2-3, 2.25 ERA) shortly after AT&T Sportsnet Southwest concludes its pregame show at 1:30pm.

The afternoon is a busy one for Houston sports fans as the Rockets take on the Thunder in Game Two of their best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals matchup. ESPN will have the game live at 2:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have coverage (territorial restrictions will apply) starting with the pregame show at 2:00pm.

Friday: It’s back west for the Astros this weekend when they take on the Padres for three games. Lance McCullers Jr. (2-1, 5.47 ERA) takes the bump for Houston and will be opposed by well-traveled hurler Garrett Richards (1-1, 3.45 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its pregame show at 7:30pm, leading into the first pitch at 8:10pm.

Saturday: La Marque’s volleyball team hits the road for a match against Van Vleck. The teams get going at 11:00am.

It will be another 8:10pm start for the Astros when they put Brandon Bielak (2-2, 1.76 ERA) on the mound against the Padres, who will place Zach Davies (2-2, 2.78 ERA) on the bump. The game gets underway shortly after AT&T Sportsnet Southwst completes its pregame show, which starts at 7:30pm.

The Rockets will play the role of “road team” in the Orlando Bubble as they face the Thunder in Game Three of their best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals series. ESPN has the game starting at 5:00pm, with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (again, territorial restrictions are in play) starting its pregame show at 4:30pm.
