
With high school basketball playoffs getting underway, the attention now shifts to the homestretch of the high school soccer regular season as teams look to position themselves into the postseason. It’s also the first weekend of regular season softball, which means tourney time is at hand. Track and field and baseball begin to get its respective motors running as well.
Wednesday: There is soccer to be had, as the boys’ slate will see Friendswood at Texas City and La Porte at Galveston Ball at 7:30pm. The girls’ soccer schedule has Texas City at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at La Porte and Santa Fe at Baytown Lee at 7:30pm.
The Rockets visit the Suns for an 8:00pm tip. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest begins coverage at 7:30pm with the pregame show.
Thursday: Both the Santa Fe and Texas City girls’ powerlifting teams will be in Alvin for the last chance meet to qualify for the regional meet later this month. La Marque’s powerlifting squad will be at Rice Consolidated for a meet.
Tourney time is the theme for area softball teams, with Dickinson at the GCCISD Tournament, while Friendswod takes part in the Barbers Hill Tournament. Galveston Ball is at the Stafford Tournament, with Hitchcock out at the Rice Consolidated Tournament. Santa Fe travels to the College Station Tournament, while Texas City is at the Katy Tourney.
A trip to Los Angeles for a 9:30pm date with the Clippers will mark the end of Houston’s first half of the regular season. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 9:00pm.
Friday: The boys’ soccer schedule starts with Splendora at La Marque at 7:00pm, followed by Clear Lake at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Brazoswood and Clear Falls at Dickinson starting at 7:30pm.
Girls’ soccer action starts early when Splendora visits La Marque at 5:00pm. Clear Brook at Clear Lake, Brazoswood at Clear Creek, and Dickinson at Clear Falls each start at 7:30pm.
Track and field gets its chance to shine with Dickinson at the Sam Mosley Classic in Humble, Friendswood traveling to Barbers Hill for the Eagle Relays and La Marque and the Texas City girls’ team at the Dawson Invitational.
A busy tennis schedule will see Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs among the teams at the two-day Deer Park Classic, while Texas City is at the Dayton Invitational.
The final batch of high school baseball scrimmages has Brazosport at Galveston Ball at 3:30pm, followed by Pearland at Santa Fe at 4:00pm and Friendswood at Clear Springs at 4:30pm. The day wraps up with Clear Lake at Texas City and South Houston at Dickinson each starting at 5:00pm.
Saturday: Boys’ soccer will have Texas City at Baytown Lee at 12:00pm, with Friendswood at Galveston Ball and Manvel at Santa Fe each at 7:30pm. For the girls’ side of the schedule, Santa Fe at Manvel and Texas City at Baytown Lee start at 12:00pm, with Galveston Ball at Friendswood getting underway at 7:30pm.
