WINNING 65 GAMES in the regular season will have little meaning unless the Rockets
win 16 more between now and mid-June. They’ll start their run as the NBA playoffs
begin while the home stretch of the high school softball and baseball regular seasons
will have contenders dreaming of playoff glories of their own.
TODAY, SUNDAY: Act one of the Rockets’ bid for the NBA Finals begin as the Western
Conference’s top seed meets the Timberwolves in the opening contest of the
Western quarterfinals beginning at 8:00pm on TNT. Houston won all three regular
season games this season against Minnesota, the most recent coming in a 129-120
victory at the Timberwolves on March 18.
The World Series champs get the national spotlight when the Astros close out their
series against the Rangers on ESPN beginning at 7:00pm. Houston brings Justin
Verlander (2-0, 1.45 ERA) while Texas calls on well-traveled hurler Bartolo Colon, who
seeks his first decision of the season despite a stellar 1.64 ERA in his first three starts.
The Sunday edition of Baseball Tonight starts at 6:00pm leading into the end of the
second round of the Silver Boot Series.
TOMORROW, MONDAY: It’s late night with the Astros as they begin a series at the
Mariners beginning at 9:10pm. Dallas Keuchel (0-2, 4.20 ERA) looks to get back on
track for Houston and will be opposed by Seattle ace Felix Hernandez, who brings a
2-0 record to the mound despite sporting a 6.60 ERA. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will
have the game live and starts coverage with the pregame show at 8:30pm.
TUESDAY: The final week of the high school softball regular season begins at 5:00pm
when Hitchcock visits La Marque. Clear Brook at Alvin, Friendswood at Clear Springs,
Clear Falls at Dickinson, Santa Fe at Fort Bend Willowridge, Galveston Ball at Manvel
and Texas City at Shadow Creek will each start at 6:30pm while Clear Lake at Clear
Creek begins at 6:45pm.
With just two weeks left in the high school baseball regular season, playoff chases begin
at 6:00pm with Hitchcock visiting rival La Marque. Alvin at Clear Brook, Dickinson
at Clear Falls, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Galveston Ball at Fort Bend Willowridge,
Clear Springs at Friendswood and Texas City at Galena Park each start at 7:00pm.
Lance McCullers Jr. (1-1, 7.71 ERA) hopes to erase the memory of Wednesday’s start
at the Twins when he returns to the mound at the Mariners beginning at 9:10pm. The
Astros hurler was tagged for eight runs over 3.2 innings while allowing six walks and
seven hits. Seattle starter James Paxton will also seek to shake off his early season
malaise as he comes into the game with a 0-1 record and 6.00 ERA. AT&T Sportsnet
Southwest will have the game live starting with the pregame show at 8:30pm
