HOOPS TOURNAMENTS HIGHLIGHT DIVERSE PACKAGE OF SPORTS

THERE IS plenty to be had for area sports fans as the weekend arrives. While

most boys’ basketball teams will be across the area for tournaments, girls’ bas ketball

is available with a solid Friday night schedule. Golf and swimming (and

diving) are also on the schedule with a host of boys and girls teams participating

in action locally.

WEDNESDAY:  Most schools will have the day off from live athletic events as

state testing, which began on Monday, continues throughout the week.

THURSDAY: All but two area boys’ basketball teams will be in tournament play

through Saturday. Clear Creek and Clear Falls will be at the Pride of Texas Tournament

at Tulso-Midway, while Clear Springs and state-ranked La Marque will be

among a loaded field of teams at the Fort Bend ISD Tournament. Friendswood is

at the Gregory-Portland Wildcat Classic, while Hitchcock and Santa Fe will be at

the Sweeny Tournament, and Texas City will be part of the Decatur Tournament.

In girls’ hoops play, Hitchcock and La Marque will each be involved at the Ana huac

Tournament.

Texas City’s girls’ golf team will be in action as Deer Park hosts a meet at the

Pasadena Municipal Golf Course.

It will be a late night for Rockets fans, as Houston tips off at Utah beginning at

9:30pm. The game is the second of three the Rockets play on the road this week

and marks the second meeting this season against the Jazz, who took a 100-89

win at Toyota Center on October 24. TNT will have the national broadcast, but

AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will also have coverage, with the latter starting with

the pregame show at 9:00pm.

FRIDAY:  Girls basketball dominates the evening, with Dickinson at Alief Elsik,

Santa Fe at Bay City, CE King at Clear Brook, Alief Taylor at Clear Creek, Texas

City at Dayton, and Clear Springs at Pearland each starting at 7:00pm. Clear

Falls at Friendswood tips off at 7:30pm.

The lone boys’ hoops game on the schedule will have Clear Brook at Galveston

Ball starting at 7:00pm.

In boys’ golf, Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs will each take part in the

annual Dick Harmon Memorial Tournament, which will be held at the Golf Club of

Houston, located in Humble. It will be the first of a two-day event.

Clear Brook’s swimming and diving team will among the schools participating in

the Dawson Reindeer Classic in Pearland.

SATURDAY:  The Rockets will have an early start to the final game of their road

trip when they visit the Mavericks at 5:00pm. Dallas won the first meeting between

the teams this season when they recorded a 128-108 rout at Houston on

November 28. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live starting with

the pregame show at 4:30pm.
