AS USUAL, THERE IS PLENTY OF basketball and soccer to open the week, but much of the local sports focus will be aimed toward Kansas City, where Houston will look to pull up an upset of the Chiefs while also hoping for a scenario that could see the city host its first AFC/AFL championship game since January 1, 1961.
Sunday: The Texans will attempt to reach the AFC Championship Game for the first time in franchise history by getting past the heavily-favored Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round. KHOU11 will have coverage at 1:00pm that will lead into the 2:05pm kickoff. The winners of this game will play the winners of Saturday’s Titans-Ravens game that was played on Saturday night.
However, if the Titans were to win on Saturday and the Texans pulled off their second win of the year at Kansas City, then NRG Stadium would be the site for the AFC Championship Game next Sunday.
Monday: In boys’ high school basketball, state-ranked La Marque will host Van Vleck on what will be the Coogs’ Alumni Night beginning at 6:30pm. The game will be broadcast live on Victory Sports Network, which can be found at www.victorysportsnet.com.
Tuesday: The boys’ high school basketball schedule is predominantly 7:00pm starts with Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Lake, Galveston Ball at Friendswood, Santa Fe at Goose Creek Memorial and Crosby at Texas City. Hitchcock at East Bernard tips off at 7:30pm.

Only three boys’ soccer matches are on the slate. Clear Creek at Strake Jesuit starts at 7:00pm while Texas City at Clear Brook and Elkins at Clear Falls each start at 7:30pm.
