Rockets are springboard for hoops-dominant schedule

FOR NOW, BASKETBALL gets the bulk of the attention. The week begins with a pair of games for the Rockets before the final Tuesday of the month brings high school hoops. District play begins to warm up in high school soccer along with a handful of high school golf teams hitting the links for tourney action.

Sunday: The Rockets face the Nuggets for the third time since December 31 when Houston makes a trip to the Mile High City for a 2:30pm tip against Denver. Houston has won both matchups, routing Denver 130-104 on New Year’s Eve and a 121-105 victory this past Wednesday. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its coverage at 2:00pm with the pregame show. The game will also be aired on NBATV.

Monday: Clear Falls’ girls’ golf team will host a tournament at South Shore Harbour Country Club that will include Clear Creek, Texas City and Santa Fe. 

The Santa Fe boys’ golf squad makes the drive to Quail Valley Golf Course, while the Hitchcock boys’ team takes part in the Sweeny Invitational that will be held at Wilderness Golf Club in Lake Jackson.

It’s another AT&T Sportsnet Southwest/NBATV pairing for the Rockets, only this time they’re the home team when they welcome the Jazz to Toyota Center for an 8:00pm showdown. It is the first meeting this season between the longtime rivals, who will square off twice more between Monday and February 22.

Tuesday: The girls’ high school basketball schedule tips off at 6:15pm with state-ranked Hitchcock at Boling, followed by La Marque at Bay City at 6:30pm. Alvin at Clear Creek, Clear Creek at state-ranked Clear Springs, Clear Falls at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Santa Fe and Friendswood at Texas City each tip off at 7:00pm.

In boys’ high school basketball, Clear Creek at Alvin, Clear Springs at Clear Brook, state-ranked Dickinson at Clear Falls, Texas City at Friendswood and Santa Fe at Galveston Ball each start at 7:00pm. Hitchcock at Boling and Bay City at state-ranked La Marque get underway at 7:30pm.

There are four matches on the boys’ high school soccer slate with Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Santa Fe and Friendswood at Texas City are each 7:30pm starts.

The girls’ high school soccer schedule has five matches on its docket with Dickinson at Clear Creek, Clear Brook at Clear Falls, Dawson at Clear Springs, Texas City at Friendswood and Santa Fe at Galveston Ball all begin at 7:30pm.
