THERE IS PLENTY ON the schedule as February begins as softball season gets underway with a host of scrimmages. Basketball and soccer remain on the slate, but the biggest news is that district realignment will arrive on Monday, impacting teams across the state.
Sunday: The Rockets help get Super Bowl Sunday off and running when they host the Pelicans for a 1:00pm tip that will be nationally televised on KTRK13. Houston has won two of the previous three meetings this season against New Orleans.
Monday: The bi-annual district realignment will be officially unveiled across the state as high schools move up and down classifications along with forming new districts. As of this weekend, the only certainty impacting the area will be Texas City dropping to 5A, Division II for football.
Clear Creek’s softball team hits the first for their first scrimmage of the 2020 season when they visit North Shore at 6:00pm.
Clear Brook’s boys’ golf team will be among those competing at Bay Oaks Golf Club. Among the schools joining them will be Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Clear Springs and Santa Fe.
Tuesday: The high school boys’ basketball schedule tips off at 6:15pm when state-ranked La Marque visits Sweeny. Clear Springs at Alvin, Santa Fe at Baytown Lee, Clear Falls at Clear Lake, Clear Brook at state-ranked Dickinson, Galena Park at Friendswood, Crosby at Galveston Ball and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial each start at 7:00pm, followed by Hitchcock at Tidehaven beginning at 7:30pm.
In girls’ high school basketball, state-ranked Hitchcock at Tidehaven gets the night underway at 6:15pm, followed by Sweeny at La Marque at 6:30pm. Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Falls, Alvin at state-ranked Clear Springs, Galveston Ball at Crosby, Friendswood at Galena Park, Baytown Lee at Santa Fe and Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City each start at 7:00pm.
The boys’ high school soccer slate has Alvin at Clear Falls, Clear Creek at Clear Lake, Galveston Ball at Crosby, Clear Springs at Dickinson, Friendswood at Galena Park, Baytown Lee at Santa Fe and Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City all start at 7:30pm.
Meanwhile, the girls’ high school soccer schedule has Clear Falls at Alvin, Santa Fe at Baytown Lee, Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Springs, Galena Park at Friendswood, Crosby at Galveston Ball and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial each start their matches at 7:30pm.
The first wave of softball scrimmages is on the docket with Dawson at Friendswood starting at 4:30pm. Clear Springs at Brazoswood, Clear Falls at Crosby, Dobie at Dickinson and Port Arthur Memorial at Galveston Ball are 6:00pm starts while Aldine MacArthur at Texas City begins at 6:30pm.
Santa Fe will play host to a girls’ high school powerlifting meet that will also see the likes of La Marque and Texas City competing.
