
THE PROS GET THE SUNDAY spotlight, but the start of the new week also means the start of high school softball season and the end of the high school boys’ basketball regular season. In between, a nice helping of soccer, golf and baseball scrimmages is on the schedule.
Sunday: Both Rockets guards James Harden and Russell Westbrook are part of captain LeBron James’ team for the 69th NBA All-Star Game in Chicago, which tips off shortly after 7:00pm. TNT will have the game live.
After opening with a win over Los Angeles, Houston’s XFL squad will look for a second straight win when they welcome St. Louis to TDECU Stadium at 5:00pm. FS1 will have the live coverage.
Monday: Opening Day of the 2020 high school softball season gets an early start as Bryan visits Galveston Ball at 1:30pm. Under the lights, Beaumont West Brook at Clear Springs, Clear Brook at Pasadena Dobie and Dickinson at Friendswood are each 6:30pm starts.
High school baseball scrimmages are also on the docket, with Dawson at Dickinson, and Clear Falls at Fort Bend Travis starting at 4:00pm, while Episcopal at Clear Springs and La Marque at Ganada gets underway at 5:00pm. Hitchcock travels to Beaumont United for a 6:00pm tilt.
Galveston Ball plays host at Moody Gardens Golf Club in a boys’ golf event that will also have Santa Fe and Texas City. Each of the CCISD schools will be part of a coed tourney that will be played at Galveston Country Club over the next two days.
Tuesday: The final night of the high school boys’ basketball season will have Hitchcock at Danbury beginning at 6:00pm, followed by Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at state-ranked Dickinson, Friendswood at Goose Creek Memorial and Galveston Ball at Texas City (the Tors-Stings game will be broadcast online at Victory Sports Net). State-ranked La Marque closes out its regular season at Columbia starting at 7:30pm.
High school softball openers continue with La Marque at Hempstead at 5:00pm. Clear Creek at Santa Fe starts at 6:00pm, followed by Sweeny at Clear Falls and Houston Christian Academy at Texas City at 6:30pm.
In boys’ high school soccer, Clear Creek at Clear Brook, Clear Springs at Clear Falls, Clear Lake at Dickinson, Goose Creek Memorial at Friendswood, Texas City at Galveston Ball and Santa Fe at Galena Park each start at 7:30pm.
On the girls’ high school soccer side of things, Clear Brook at Clear Creek, Dickinson at Clear Lake, Clear Falls at Clear Springs, Friendswood at Goose Creek Memorial, Galena Park at Santa Fe and Galveston Ball at Texas City are also 7:30pm starts.
The high school baseball scrimmage slate will have La Porte at Galveston Ball at 4:00pm with Manvel at Clear Creek and Lutheran South Academy at Friendswood starting at 4:30pm. South Houston at Texas City is a 5:00pm start, followed by Hitchcock at Brazosport at 6:00pm.
Texas City’s girls’ golf team is the host at Bayou Golf Course.
