
LA MARQUE CITY MANAGER TINK JACKSON had a very successful Saturday as the city’s inaugural Kids Fish event at Highland Bayou Park was a sellout that saw over 200 local children participate.
Dozens of youth from ages 2-16 were able to enjoy the pleasant weather and experience the chance to fish. Many youngsters embarked on their first time with a rod and reel in their hands and were also able to leave with a personal tackle box.
Boyd’s Crawfish Warehouse supplied the bait for the event and were among a host of businesses that contributed their time and effort to making the Kids Fish event a strong outing that will definitely return for next year. The event filled up quickly as the city reached its goal almost a month in advance.
Jackson created the event as an opportunity to allow the youth of La Marque to interact with the city’s employees along with the opportunity to encourage more outdoor activities over the course of the year. A host of youngsters planned to take full advantage of being outdoors this week during Spring Break.
The chance to connect with fishing will present local youth with opportunities later in the year as the STAR Texas fishing event will start in late May while Texas City’s annual Tackle Time arrives in late June.
