JAMES MASSA JR. BROUGHT HOME two of the three biggest catches during the 58th annual Texas City-La Marque Jaycees Tackle Time, which concluded on Sunday afternoon. Massa pulled in a pair of tiger sharks, including a 717.9-pounder that was more than 63% of the Tackle Time-record 1,129-pound shark. It topped the 566.20-pound tiger shark that he caught during the opening weekend, one that was 50.15% of the record.
Cliff Fuller had little to be disappointed about, as his 609.20-pound tiger shark (53.96% of the record) finished a solid second overall.
For his effort, Massa won $1,500 from DSW Homes and Benny’s Auto.
Granger Gardner won the open category with a 35.10-pound barracuda, earning him $500 from Texas First Bank, while the 21.01-pound red snapper that Frank Carner pulled in produced $500 from 9th Street Meat Market.
The $2,500 prize for speckled trout went to Randy Gehert, courtesy of Texas First Bank. Jonathan Cereno’s 4.15-pound flounder earned him $500 from South Land Title, while the 176.50-pound stingray that John Brasher caught brought him $750 from Dunn Heat Exchangers.
