SANTA FE COACH Matthew Bentley brings his Indians into a new district for the 2020 football season as they seek to improve upon a 2-8 record in Bentley’s debut last year. Members of District 12-5A-2, the Indians will open district play on September 26 against longtime rival Texas City after starting with a road trip to Brazoswood and home dates against Needville and South Houston.
Bentley’s bid to return Santa Fe to playoff contention will be challenged by the fact the Indians will be playing in one of the state’s toughest districts. Both Barbers Hill and Crosby are ranked in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football preseason top 10 in 5A-2, while Kingwood Park and Port Neches-Groves also made the postseason in 2019.
Bolstered by one of the most loyal fanbases in the Houston area, the Indians will be flying under the radar, which is where they’ve historically done their best work. With a break or two, the November 6 regular season finale at PN-G could have playoff implications for the Indians.
