THE MONTH OF AUGUST ends with the Astros nipping at the heels of the Athletics in the American League West. They will open the month of September looking to close that gap at the expense of the struggling Rangers. Meanwhile, an historic stance for equality pushed the NBA playoff schedule to where the Rockets and Thunder could use the start of the month to decide matters in the first round of their postseason series.
Sunday: Coming off the best start of his brief career, Framber Valdez (3-2, 2.35 ERA) takes the mound for the Astros in their series finale against the Athletics beginning at 1:10pm. Oakland goes with talented rookie hurler Jesus Luzardo (3-2, 3.74 ERA) when the teams collide on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest shortly after the pregame show, which begins at 12:30pm.
Someone could have their season ended as the Rockets and Thunder meet in Game Six of the Western Conference quarterfinals. The game was pushed back after the players forced the postponement of games on Wednesday and Thursday to make a stance against racism and violence. As of Friday morning, an official start time was yet to be announced, but AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have coverage starting with the pregame 30 minutes before tip.
Monday: No games scheduled.
Tuesday: The Astros open the month of September with a visit from the Rangers beginning at 7:10pm. Houston gives the ball to Cristian Javier (3-1, 3.77 ERA) while Texas will start Kyle Gibson (1-3, 5.73 ERA). Fans will be able to double their viewing pleasure as AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (Astros) and Fox Sports Southwest (Rangers) will each have the game and will start their respective pregame shows at 6:30pm.
A potential Game Seven of the Western Conference quarterfinals could be on the docket pending the outcome of Sunday’s Game Six. Time and channel will be determined, if necessary.
