Letter to the Editor:
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express the need for voters to get out and vote in support of the College of the Mainland 2023 Bond. Galveston County is one of the fastest-growing counties, and this regional growth will not slow down. As a result, more residents and companies are relocating into the region, resulting in more demand for expanded programs, and increased student enrollment.
Many of the remaining structures on campus are over 50 years old. They are physically in poor shape, expensive to maintain, don’t provide modern-day learning spaces, and have significant concerns from a safety and accessibility standpoint.
Without the approval of this bond, COM’s aging facilities will remain and its ability to service ongoing demands for new academic and workforce programs will become limited. We need to support the COM 2023 Bond by casting our votes FOR the Bond. A vote for the bond is a vote for our community and local education.
Thank you,
Sally Ann Austin
