Friday marks opening night for the 2023-24 boys’ basketball regular season as six area teams will tip off a new campaign. However, the highlight of the weekend is the annual Peggy Whitley Classic that will see each of the CCISD schools compete with a number of other teams from across the Houston area.
Wednesday: La Marque’s boys’ basketball team closes out their scrimmage schedule when they travel to state-ranked Houston Yates at 4:30pm. Texas City visits Dawson for a scrimmage that begins at 4:30pm.
The Rockets welcome LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the Lakers for a 7:00pm visit to Toyota Center. Space City Home Network starts its coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show.
Thursday: The annual Peggy Whitley Classic will not only have each of the five CCISD girls’ basketball teams but also Galveston Ball and state-ranked Hitchcock in the three-day tourney that will be played throughout the Clear Creek ISD high schools. Meanwhile, Dickinson will be at the Baytown Gander Classic, while Friendswood competes in the Lamar Consolidated ISD Tourney. La Marque is at the Conroe Tournament, while Santa Fe is part of the Bob Ducroz Tournament at Columbia High School, a tournament the Indians won last year.
In high school swimming, Clear Brook visits Clear Falls for a dual meet, while Clear Springs visits Shadow Creek at 5:00pm. Clear Creek and Clear Springs will have a select group of swimmers and divers participating in the Bob Stallings Aggieland Classic on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Friday: Opening night of the 2023-24 boys basketball season starts at 7:00pm with Oak Ridge at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Deer Park, Clear Falls at Mickey Leland High School, Clear Springs at Pearland, Santa Fe at Sam Rayburn and Texas City at South Houston.
The Rockets host the Pelicans at 7:00pm. Space City Home Network hits the air at 6:30pm with the pregame show.
Saturday: Dickinson starts its high school boys’ basketball season with a 1:30pm clash against Houston Christian in the RCS Season Opener, which will be held at the M.O. Campbell Center in Aldine. A packed college football schedule starts at 2:00pm with Sam Houston State at Louisiana Tech (ESPN+) and Prairie View at Southern (ESPN+), followed by Lamar at Nicholls (ESPN+) at 3:00pm and Southern Utah at Stephen F. Austin (ESPN+) at 4:00pm. Cincinnati at Houston (FS1) begins at 6:00pm, while #7 Texas at TCU (KTRK13), Mississippi State at Texas A&M (ESPN2), and Rice at Texas-San Antonio (ESPNU) each kick off at 6:30pm. Houston Christian at McNeese (ESPN+) concludes the schedule at 7:00pm.
