For other cities, Hurricane Harvey is a thing of the past.
It came, it destroyed and it left. But, for so many people
living in and around Houston, Harvey is definitely NOT a
thing of the past. So many people are still living in shelters,
seeking assistance and trying to rebuild their lives
after the unexpected floodwaters came and destroyed
everything in its path. This holiday season is going to
be especially hard for those who were hit by the hurricane,
because their priority is on fixing their homes and
rebuilding their lives, rather than on making Christmas
dinner and buying presents.
We have seen several organizations holding toy
drives and other opportunities to donate gifts throughout
the past few months, but Galveston County Judge,
Mark Henry, is doing something a little different this
Friday. On December 22nd, Henry is hosting an event
that will deliver 3,500 holiday dinners to these displaced
residents. Volunteers will be delivering meals to hotels
where Harvey victims are residing, as well to the hardest
hit neighborhoods in Dickinson and League City.
This is a wonderful opportunity to share in the season
of giving by giving of your time. The more volunteers
that go along, the faster the meals can be delivered.
Volunteers will be staged at 3:30pm at the H.E.B. at
2755 East League City Parkway in League City, and the
deliveries will start at about 5:00pm.
