GIRLS’ HOOPS NEARS END WHILE SOFTBALL BEGINS FOR AREA HIGH SCHOOLS

GET USED TO life without football, for while the Super Bowl is next Sunday, the Rockets will get the spotlight upon them with home games against the Magic and Pelicans. The start of the week also includes the final stretch of the regular season in high school girls’ basketball, while a handful of scrimmages ushers in the start of the high school softball campaign. SUNDAY: Two weeks after defeating the Magic on the road, the Rockets will look for a season sweep when they host Orlando at Toyota Center beginning at 6:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will start its coverage at 5:30pm with the pregame show. MONDAY: Santa Fe and Clear Brook get the honor of unofficially starting the 2019 softball season when the Indians visit the Wolverines for a scrimmage beginning at 6:30pm. There is also girls’ golf on the schedule, as Santa Fe and Texas City will be among the schools participating at South Shore Harbor Country Club starting at 9:00am. TUESDAY: The home stretch of the girls’ basketball regular season starts with Tidehaven at Hitchcock at 6:15pm, followed by Crosby at Galveston Ball and La Marque at Sweeny at 6:30pm. Clear Springs at Alvin, Santa Fe at Baytown Lee, Clear Falls at Clear Lake, Clear Brook at Dickinson, Galena Park at Friendswood and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial each begin at 7:00pm. The boys’ basketball schedule will have state-ranked Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Falls, Alvin at Clear Springs, Galveston Ball at Crosby, Baytown Lee at Santa Fe and Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City each starting at 7:00pm. Tidehaven at Hitchcock and Sweeny at state-ranked La Marque each begin at 7:30pm. In boys’ soccer, Santa Fe at Galveston Ball starts at 7:00pm, while Dickinson at Clear Creek, Clear Brook at Clear Falls and Texas City at Friendswood begin their matches at 7:30pm. The night in girls’ soccer will have Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Dawson at Clear Springs, Clear Creek at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Santa Fe and Friendswood at Texas City each starting at 7:30pm. Three more high schools will have their first softball scrimmages, starting with Houston Madison at La Marque at 5:00pm, followed by Shadow Creek at Hitchcock and Brazoswood at Texas City at 6:00pm. The Rockets will have the national spotlight when they host the Pelicans in a game televised by TNT beginning at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will also broadcast the game, with the pregame show starting at 6:30pm.
