THERE’S PLENTY ON the sports schedule as the first full week of March begins. High school
baseball and softball dominate the schedule and while the Astros get into spring training
gear, the Rockets will be on the road taking on two of the best teams in the Eastern
Conference.
Sunday: The Rockets get center stage with a 2:30pm clash against the Celtics at in Boston that
will be televised by ABC13. Houston won the first meeting this season between the title
contenders, a 127-113 decision on December 27.
Spring training continues for the Astros, who will visit the Nationals in Grapefruit League play at
12:05pm. KBME790 AM will have the broadcast starting at 11:30am with the pregame show.
Monday: Two high school baseball games on the schedule, as Clear Brook plays at Dobie
beginning at 4:00pm while Friendswood travels to Lutheran South for a 7:00pm start.
The Astros will be a split-squad, with part of the team meeting visiting the Braves while the
other group will be at home against the Mets. Both games will start at 12:05pm.
Tuesday: The high school baseball schedule will have High Island at La Marque beginning at
5:00pm, followed by Clear Creek at Baytown Sterling, Katy Taylor at Clear Falls and Clear
Springs at Fort Bend Elkins at 6:00pm. Hitchcock at Anahuac wraps up the slate at 7:00pm.
In high school softball, Hitchcock at Brazosport begins at 6:00pm, with Clear Falls at Clear
Brook, Clear Springs at Columbia, Clear Creek at Dickinson, Goose Creek Memorial at
Friendswood, La Marque at Tarkington and Galveston Ball at Texas City each starting at 6:30pm.
With District 24-6A having a bye, only three matches – all District 22-5A – are on the docket in
both boys’ and girls’ high school soccer. Galveston Ball at Friendswood, Santa Fe at Goose Creek
Memorial and Crosby at Texas City each start the boys’ schedule at 7:30pm while Texas City at
Crosby, Friendswood at Galveston Ball and Goose Creek Memorial at Santa Fe comprise the
girls’ schedule with each match beginning at 7:30pm.
District 22-5A golfers will be at Moody Gardens as Galveston Ball plays host in an event that
pushes the district’s best performers toward competing in a push for state tourney bids.
The Rockets face the best the Eastern Conference has to offer when they cross the border to
meet the Raptors at 7:00pm. Houston held on to outlast Toronto in a 121-119 slugfest at
Toyota Center on January 25. TNT will have the national coverage for the game while AT&T
Sportsnet Southwest will start its portion of the broadcast beginning with the pregame show at
6:30pm.
