CCISD WILL HOST BOTH A BASEBALL tournament and a track and field event this weekend, leaving no question where the hot spot is for local high school sports. Based on the outcome of games played on Monday and Tuesday, both Dickinson and La Marque could have boys’ basketball teams bidding for a trip to the state Final Four in San Antonio.
Wednesday: There are no varsity games scheduled for the day.
Thursday: The majority of the area’s high school baseball teams will be in League City for the CCISD Tournament. Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Clear Springs will also be joined Friendswood, who will be among the other visiting programs for the three-day slugfest. In other tournament play, Dickinson will be at the Crosby Tournament, Galveston Ball is at the Barbers Hill tourney, Hitchcock takes part in the Anhuac Panther Baseball Classic, La Marque will be at the Danbury Tournament, while Santa Fe is at the Brenham Tournament and Texas City competes in the Brazoswood Tournament.
The District 24-6A soccer schedule is moved up a night as the student-athletes will be heading to Spring Break next week. Clear Springs at Alvin, Clear Falls at Clear Lake and Clear Brook at Dickinson (boys’) are each 7:30pm starts, while Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Lake at Clear Falls and Alvin at Clear Springs (girls’) are each 7:340pm start times.
In high school softball, Clear Springs is at the Sienna Tournament while Hitchcock is at the Lamar Consolidated ISD Tournament.
The track and field schedule will have the Texas City boys’ team heading to Texas State University to participate in the Bobcat Relays
The girls’ powerlifting teams of La Marque and Santa Fe will be among the schools represented at the Bay City meet, one of the final events before the regional finals.
Clear Springs, Dickinson and Galveston Ball are each participating in a tennis clash at Baytown that starts at 6:45am and will continue through Saturday.
The Rockets get the national spotlight when the Clippers visit Toyota Center for a 7:00pm showdown that will be aired on TNT
Friday: The 22-5A boys’ soccer schedule will have Crosby at Friendswood and Santa Fe at Texas City beginning at 7:30pm. The girls’ soccer slate will have Friendswood at Crosby and Texas City at Santa Fe also starting at 7:30pm.
A busy track and field schedule will be highlighted by the Ruben Jordan Classic at Clear Creek, where all five CCISD schools will also be joined by Dickinson, Friendswood, La Marque, Santa Fe and the Texas City girls’ team. Meanwhile, the Texas City boys’ team will be at the Gulf Coast Classic in Freeport, while Galveston Ball will be at the Lamar Consolidated ISD Relays.
There’s also golf on the slate, with Clear Brook, Clear Falls and Clear Springs will be among the boys’ teams represented at Moody Gardens Golf Club, where Clear Creek plays host. The girls’ schedule will have Clear Brook and Clear Springs at Pebble Creek Country Club as they participate in a meet hosted by A&M Consolidated. The Clear Falls girls are at River Pointe Golf Club where they will take on Fort Bend Clements.
There is only one softball game on the schedule, a non-district matchup pitting Clear Brook at Friendswood beginning at 5:00pm.
In tennis, Texas City will be on the road as they take part in the Cy-Fair Tournament.
Saturday: Dickinson High School will host the regional powerlifting meet, giving the Gators and other area programs an opportunity to move toward a potential state title, which will be held in Abilene later this month.
The Rockets will make a quick hop to Charlotte, where they will face the Hornets for a 4:00pm date. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game live beginning with the pregame show at 3:30pm.
