Moore Memorial Library is now open to all patrons,
including non-Texas City Residents. Please remember that face-covering and social distancing rules are still in place. Hours of operation are 9:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm Monday-Friday. This allows for a
one-hour disinfecting break. The next time you go to the Library be sure and look at the lovely potted plants at the entrance. The Texas City Garden Club is sponsoring these beautiful plants! Each week, a member of the Garden Club stops by to water and check on their progress.

The Library had a fantastic turn out for their Summer Reading Program 2020! Their little patrons read a total of 968 hours, while teens read a hefty 359 hours and adults read a grand total of 1893 hours!
Congratulations to each of the prize winners! If you
received a notice about winning a prize, remember to
by and pick it up!
Libraries around the country have not only tiptoed
through the process of reopening, but also following
procedures to safely lend out books. Our Libraries
are community hubs where parents bring their toddlers for story time, where people come to use the computer or just come to relax and read. Now all of that will be rethought.
It is a difficult position for Libraries as it’s the opposite of what they normally try to do. Libraries want to be the “community living room”, to have everyone want to stay and get comfortable. Now they are designed to prevent lingering and patrons taking their time and enjoying their visit.
One thing many librarians have noticed is changes in the reading patterns of their patrons. Libby, an ebook lending app for libraries, saw a 51 percent increase in the checkout of e-books after shutdown orders were issued in mid-March. Many people have been forced to turn to e-books.
Texas City is very fortunate to have Moore Memorial Library. The staff is devoted to providing great service to the community. Even through these trying times ~ we can find comfort in knowing they are there for us.
